A campsite committed to respecting the environment
Domaine de la Ville Huchet has been awarded the Clef Verte label since 2018.
Present on five continents, the Clef Verte tourism ecolabel is the leading international sustainable tourism label for tourist accommodation and restaurants.
Developed in France since 1998, the Clef Verte label is the leading ecolabel for tourist establishments in France, both in terms of the number of establishments awarded the label and its long history.
The Green Key criteria are established internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education and reviewed every 4 years to take account of technological advances and environmental issues. Each country uses the international criteria to develop its own criteria, which may not be less demanding than the international standard.
On the contrary, each country can reinforce certain criteria, and must systematically obtain approval for any changes from the Green Key label’s International Management. Green Key criteria are regularly re-evaluated to ensure that they remain ahead of the curve and meet the new environmental requirements of the Fondation pour l’éducation à l’environnement (FEE) internationally and Teragir in France.
Campsites are often sensitive to environmental issues, and the Green Key label is a guarantee of seriousness for those who want to take their commitments further. It certifies that the company’s environmental approach meets over a hundred criteria in all areas of sustainable tourism management.
Aware of a campsite’s impact on the environment, over the past 21 years we have been directing our investments towards a more responsible and respectful policy, and here are some of our main achievements.
Focus on the Domaine de La Ville Huchet beehives
For the entire Domaine de la Ville Huchet team, protecting the environment and biodiversity is a subject close to our hearts. That’s why, for over 20 years, we’ve been implementing a wide range of actions to reduce the ecological impact of a campsite on the planet.
Since 2015, we’ve therefore decided, with the help of professionals, to set up two beehives on our campsite (to the northwest of the campsite), and it’s been a success! Indeed, the bee is a major player in the preservation of biodiversity and it seems important to us to protect the survival of the species. Among other things, they pollinate flowers, reproduce plant species and, in a way, provide us with food!
Since the arrival of the Asian hornets, we’ve had to relocate our hives a little further south of Saint-Malo, in accordance with the law. Every summer, you’ll be able to find home-made honey harvested by these little bees in the Domaine de la Ville Huchet grocery store. A delicious way to enhance our natural heritage!
Composting bio-waste
And to complete our actions in favor of the environment, we have decided to introduce composting of bio-waste. To this end, we are proud to present: Shrek !
What’s his role? Shrek is there to eat all your biowaste and transform it into compost. This compost will then be reused for our plantations.
Here’s the list of foodstuffs that Shrek loves: peelings, spoiled produce, uneaten dishes, from vegetables and starches to meat and fish.
It digests all foods except large bones, shellfish and cooking oils. Of course, he doesn’t like cans, cutlery, etc. either.
How does it work?
Simply dispose of your food waste in the bins provided on the campsite. Thanks to the enzymes, natural heating of the biowaste and additional heating by Shrek, the biowaste will reduce by 90% between 8 and 10 hours. The resulting substrate is a hygienized, odorless powder that can be used as compost for planting.
