Which beach to choose in Saint-Malo with children?
The unmissable Plage du SILLON
Voted France’s MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH in 2018, 2021 and 2023
Easily accessible from the campsite, this beach is beautiful at low tide. Renowned for its driftwood breakwaters, it’s a must for photo memories of your Saint Malo vacation.
Almost 3 km long, it’s the largest white sand beach in the corsair town. Plage du Sillon is home to
La Grande Plage: supervised swimming in season, ideal for families, with kite-flying when the wind is right.
The seawall, which runs alongside the Grande Plage, offers a pleasant walk to admire the beautiful seaside residences. It’s also THE ideal spot for joggers in search of sea air.
Plage de la Hoguette is ideal for water sports, with windsurfing, sand yachting and surfing. A sailing school is also located here. The children’s club is also located here.
Plage de Rochebonne, a more intimate beach. It is recommended for those looking for a quieter place to relax, read or swim in a less crowded area.
Customer tip: plan to arrive early in the morning in high season to easily find a good spot. At high tide, space is reduced: remember to check the tide tables.
BON SECOURS Beach, the spot for teenagers
With its natural swimming pool, proximity to the town center and sailing club, it’s the ideal beach for young people. You can swim at any time of day in the seawater pool, which refills with each new tide. The famous diving board, often immortalized at sunset, is very popular with teenagers. The sailing school offers a safe introduction to water sports such as kayaking and optimist sailing.
Accessible via the ramparts, Bon Secours beach is steeped in history. It’s THE beach of the fortified town. An ideal setting to immerse yourself in the history of Saint Malo, while reading your guidebook quietly on the large terrace of the bar overlooking the beach.
Beware: in summer, this beach is very busy. Lonely souls, prefer an early morning or late evening visit for greater peace and quiet…
Bon Secours beach offers an exceptional view of the rocks of Grand Bé and Petit Bé. At low tide, you can walk to these 2 islets. It’s an ideal way to follow in Vauban’s footsteps… a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the city’s history through the eyes of its legendary architect and town planner. When the skies are clear, you can also discover the Dinard coastline and, further afield, Cap Fréhel! In the evening, the sunset is magnificent.
In summer, it’s very busy: for greater peace and quiet, choose early morning or late afternoon.
Le MÔLE beach, more sheltered
Popular with locals for its sunshine, it’s THE beach with the best shelter from the wind… and in Brittany, that counts for something! This beach is supervised in summer.
To access Le Môle beach, park outside town in one of the secure pay parking lots. The entrance to the beach is at the end of rue Louvel.
If you’re traveling with young children, this is an option to keep in mind.
The ROTHENEUF district, ideal for family beach outings
La plage du Pont, to find playmates for the kids
The PONT beach is very popular with families, and your children will easily find playmates. The Davier parking lot is close by and offers free parking. The slipway gives you access to the boat if you need it.
The NICET beach, a favourite for an afternoon of idleness
Discover this small, sunny cove ideal for a relaxing afternoon without children. A steep staircase leads up to the beach. Please note that parking spaces near this beach are limited… It’s a rare pleasure!
The nearby “chemin des douaniers” (customs path) invites you to take a hike, if you fancy a little exercise. The view of the Pointe de la Varde is breathtaking.
In this eastern part of Saint Malo, you’ll also find a large PICNIC natural area with shaded, sea-view tables. A play area for children and a fitness trail for adults have also been set up for the enjoyment of all those who want to let off steam.
⚠️ Unsupervised swimming: caution is advised, but for a quiet moment of idleness, it’s great.
In SAINT SERVAN, west of Saint Malo… SAINT PÈRE and Solidor beaches
These beaches are more intimate and less popular with tourists. They can’t compete with the large expanses of sand on the beaches in the heart of town… But at high tide, young people love to jump off the cale du Solidor. Mind you, this is for good swimmers only! Ideal for a quiet moment or after a visit to the Tour Solidor.
In the immediate vicinity of the Ville Huchet campsite, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to lounging, playing, fishing and enjoying Saint-Malo’s most beautiful beaches… With family, friends or on your own, we invite you to take advantage of your vacation on the Emerald Coast to try out the different beaches and select your favorite.
Anse Duguesclin (Saint-Coulomb)
- Family beach and nature: fine sand, dunes, tranquillity: the ideal setting for a relaxing family day out.
- Dogs welcome: l’Anse Duguesclin accepts dogs: off-season all day, and in summer before 10am or after 6pm/20pm depending on the season.
- Discovery & walking: at low tide, you can walk from the sand to the small islet with Fort du Guesclin: an original outing for young and old, combining sea, history and walking.
For those traveling with a dog, this is a real plus: and a good alternative to the busier beaches of Saint-Malo. Don’t forget your leash, and check access times according to the season.
