Why choose Saint-Malo for your family vacation?
Are you starting to think about your next vacation with the kids? Do you want a holiday that appeals to everyone, young and old, without being an expedition every time? Then Saint-Malo is the place for you.
At Ville Huchet, we’ve been welcoming families for years. And what we often hear is how pleasant Saint-Malo is to live in with children. It’s a city on a human scale, lively but not stuffy, where you can spend a whole day without having to get out the car. Walks, beaches, cycling, sightseeing, ice cream, fresh air… it’s all here. And it’s all within easy reach.
Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, energetic kids or teens who like to get moving, there are a thousand ways to enjoy a great family vacation in Saint-Malo. Here we show you why this destination works so well for tribes… and how our campsite can become your ideal base for making the most of it.
A town on a human scale where you can do everything on foot
What we love about Saint-Malo is that everything is so simple. Here, there’s no need to drive across town to get to the beach, and no need to plan expeditions to keep the kids busy. In just a few minutes by bus or bike, you can go from the pool to the sea, from a stroll in the park to an ice cream on the ramparts. And when you’re traveling with the family, that counts for something, doesn’t it?
A city where there’s never a dull moment
There’s no need to choose between beach, culture and nature: in Saint-Malo, you can do it all in the same day. In the morning, children can run on the sand or go fishing (depending on the tides, of course). In the afternoon, you can climb the ramparts or head out to sea. And in the evening, why not take a bike ride along the Sillon, or watch the sun set over Dinard from the Tour Solidor?
It’s this diversity, concentrated in a small area, that appeals so much to families. There’s no need to travel miles for a variety of pleasures: it’s all there, within pedal-power reach… or stroller-power.Discover all the treasures of Ille-et-Vilaine, like the Pointe du Grouin in Cancale, a real picture-postcard setting.

What can you do with children in Saint-Malo during the vacations?
From toddlers to teenagers, there’s something for everyone in Saint-Malo. We see it every summer at the campsite: families who come here appreciate above all the variety of activities and the fact that they can be easily varied, without being complicated to organize. Here are our tips for adapting your stay to your children’s ages.
What to do with a baby or toddler in Saint-Malo?
With a toddler, Saint-Malo is a gentle place to be. There are quiet beaches, peaceful coves and parks to take a breather. We particularly recommend the Plage de la Passagère, 2.6 km from the campsite: sheltered, with no waves, it’s perfect for making sandcastles with your young children (swimming is forbidden). (Please note that swimming is prohibited). For walks, the Parc de la Briantais or the paths along the banks of the Rance are easily accessible by baby carriage. And in town, the ramparts or the stroll along the sillon offer easy breaks.
What to do with children aged 6 to 10 on vacation in Saint-Malo?
At this age, children want to move, learn and marvel. In Saint-Malo, they have everything they need: treasure hunts in the narrow streets, boat trips, small museums or big adventures… anything is possible. We recommend the Mini-Zoo in the ramparts: an unexpected place with incongruous animals ^^. And to feed their imaginations, don’t miss a visit to the famous privateer ship l’Étoile du Roy. They’ll be able to brag to the school about having been a privateer during a tea party.
What activities are available for teenagers in Saint-Malo?
With teenagers, it’s not always easy to find activities that bring them together… but in Saint-Malo, it often works! Of course, there are water sports like paddleboarding and sailing, but there are also tours that really grab their attention. For example, we recommend the Demeure du Corsaire, at the Hôtel Magon de la Lande. The guided tour combines anecdotes, secret passages, privateer life and period objects: a real adventure novel for the whole family. And if you’re looking for other ideas to get them moving or discovering, don’t hesitate to drop by the campsite reception desk: we’ll guide you according to their current desires.
What to do in Saint Malo if it rains?
We’re not going to lie to you: in Brittany, the sky can sometimes change mood. But here, we’re used to it, and above all, we know how to make the most of it. In Saint-Malo, the weather doesn’t hold families back: on the contrary, it punctuates the days and allows us to vary the pleasures. And as we say back home: “In Brittany, the sun shines several times a day.”
When the weather’s fine, as we’ve seen, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh sea air. But what if there’s a downpour? Take the opportunity to dive into the depths of the Grand Aquarium, visit a malouinière, try out an escape game, or simply enjoy a warm pancake break. Children (and older ones too, let’s face it) love it, whatever the weather.
In fact, we’ve prepared a full article with all our ideas for keeping the kids busy in Saint-Malo when it’s raining. You’ll see, here, the weather is never a problem: it’s just another way of experiencing vacations in Brittany.
