So, follow us for a trip like no other!
The first sites to discover during your bike ride between Saint-Malo and Cancale
From the Ville Huchet campsite, get on your bike and head for the Sillon, this magnificent stretch of beach which has recently been developed for bicycles. The Chaussée du Sillon is in fact a large and vast cycle path that we suggest you use to start your route between Saint-Malo and Cancale. From the outset, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the coast, carried by the sea spray and the mildness of the sea air, with a first stop to be made at the Pointe de la Varde. This rocky peak, located in the Rothéneuf district of Saint-Malo, offers a masterly panorama of the open sea, at a height of over 30 metres. It's a great place to take photos, as the site offers an unobstructed view of the bay of Saint-Malo!
The sculpted rocks of Rothéneuf, an unmissable cycling experience near Saint-Malo
Then, from there, take the opportunity to discover the famous sculpted rocks of Rothéneuf. Because the bike ride we are proposing is also an opportunity to get in touch with the history of the region! The sculpted rocks of Rothéneuf are only 5 km from Saint-Malo, on your way to Cancale. You are sure to be won over by the strange and dreamlike world of these sculptures, which are inspired by the legend of the Rothéneuf family of corsairs and... pirates. More than 300 animals, chimeras, monsters and faces sculpted from the rock by Abbé Fouré have been erected on the seafront since the end of the 19th century.
After this short break, head back to Cancale and get ready to contemplate one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole region with Anse Duguesclin. Located in Saint-Coulomb, this beach is both gentle and beautiful. You can admire the view of the Dugesclin islet, the former stronghold of the Du Guesclin family, built in the 11th century. The place is private but, good news, at low tide it is possible to walk around it. The Du Guesclin Fort now belongs to a family who bought it from a celebrity : Léo Ferré.
The second part of the cycling tour from Saint-Malo to Cancale
If you thought you had seen everything on this first part of the Saint-Malo to Cancale cycling route, think again, because the rest of the route is also full of nuggets! This is the case of the Chapelle du Verger, located in the commune of Cancale. This small neo-gothic chapel dating from the 19th century is ideal for a short stop along the way. Perched high above the beach of Le Verger, it is dedicated to the sailors, to the protection and to the memory of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to the sea. You will be charmed by the serene atmosphere that reigns outside with the green of the surrounding nature that matches perfectly with the blue of the sea on the horizon.
Then continue towards the Pointe du Grouin, this piece of land that stretches majestically for 7 kilometres in the middle of the sea... Take advantage of the moment to feel the maritime fragrances, take a breath of fresh and pure air before heading for another famous point, the Pointe du Hoc. This cape which proudly advances into the Channel offers a beautiful view of the coast.
A visit to the port of Cancale on your cycling route to Saint-Malo
The penultimate stop on your bike ride from Saint-Malo is the port of Cancale. You can easily reach it by pedal from the Pointe du Hoc, and you will take great pleasure in admiring the beauty of this typical fishing port of the region. Why not sit down at one of the local tables and taste one of the many local culinary specialities which honour the products of the sea.
After this stopover, it's time to return to the campsite, and on the way back, the Malouinière de la Ville Bague is a place that is worth a visit. Situated in Saint-Coulomb, this imposing building is characteristic of the bourgeois Malouin architecture and dates from the 18th century. Open to the public and set in the heart of a magnificent landscaped park, it is the ideal final stop on your thrilling itinerary!
